After graduating cum laude from the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Meyer continued his training in medicine at the University of California-San Francisco, School of Medicine. Upon completion of his medical internship, Dr. Meyer attended Stanford University, School of Medicine for advanced training in radiation oncology. Over the next decade, he completed his residency in radiation oncology, fellowship in radiation biology, as well as joined Stanford’s radiation oncology faculty fulfilling many roles in clinical research, patient care, and resident education.

In 1989, Dr. Meyer became director of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco. For almost the last three decades, Dr. Meyer has been a leader in radiation oncology patient care and its development in San Francisco hospitals. For 25 years, Dr. Meyer has served as the director of the internationally recognized San Francisco Cancer Symposium and editor of the textbook series Frontiers of Radiation Oncology. As chairman of the board of the West Coast Cancer Foundation, Dr. Meyer facilitated its programs of providing advanced radiation physics and planning services. He was also selected to be president of the Northern California Radiation Oncology Society. His dedication and contributions have influenced international advancements in his field. Most gratifying to him, he has been one of the most sought-after clinicians in patient care in our area and has helped guide the therapy of now thousands of patients. In recognition of his many achievements, he was chosen by his peers to be a Fellow in the College of Radiology and was one of the first to be selected as Fellow in the American Society of Radiation Oncology, one of only about 250 oncologists selected for this honor in the Society’s history.

In his non-professional work, Dr. Meyer has been a regular participant in the world of performance arts in San Francisco, where he is an active member of several major organizations. Dr. Meyer is an avid performer of classical music himself, on his chosen instrument of violin, and his home has provided regular concerts, hosting great artists such as Midori, Lang Lang, Richard Goode, Garrick Ohlsson, Chanticleer and many others.
